February 24 @ 19:00 - 21:00 CET
Join us for a conversational immersion at Brasserie Baselstab. The German conversations begin at 7 pm. Please be prompt.
BaselConnect’s Language Café aims to connect foreigners living in Basel with locals in order to allow the foreigners to practice conversing in High German and even Schwyzerdytsch and the locals to have an opportunity to connect with foreign native speakers and practice their language skills (e.g. English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, etc.)
Our Language Café is based on the principle of reciprocity and is an all-volunteer effort with no charge. We usually meet every other Monday evening from 19:00 to 21:00 at Brasserie Baselstab.
PLEASE ARRIVE PROMPTLY AT 19:00 as the first hour we chat in German (minimum A2 level required) and the second hour we practice other languages.
The first hour is devoted to conversation in small groups of five or six in High German and the second hour to conversation in other languages, led by native speakers.
To get the most benefit and as a courtesy to the group; everyone arrives on time and once you get started, must speak only in the target language. If people have trouble expressing themselves, others can help them. This is to prevent defaulting to English as lingua franca, which would defeat the purpose.
Outside food and beverages are strictly prohibited.
To take the conversation with you, please join the BaselConnect Facebook Language Café group which you can find here.
If you plan on attending regularly, please ask your host to be added to the Language Café WhatsApp group.
